[NEWS] CLINICAL TRIALS: Halt of Celebrex Study Threatens Drug’s Future, Other Trials
New research indicates Pfizer's COX-2 inhibitor Celebrex may cause increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, leading to the halting of some clinical trials involving the drug. Dozens of other COX-2 inhibitor trials are undergoing careful review. The scenario is strikingly similar to what happened this fall to Merck's COX-2 inhibitor Vioxx, which the Food and Drug Administration subsequently removed from the market.

[NEWS] HIGH-ENERGY PHYSICS: Report Slams SLAC’s Safety Practices
A Department of Energy investigation into a serious electrical accident this fall at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) concludes that a routine disregard for safety regulations brought about the incident. The accident has led to the indefinite shutdown of the lab's accelerators, causing SLAC to lose ground to a Japanese laboratory engaged in the same type of research.
